COMMUNION AT ST. ANNE'S. Do come to one of our services of Holy Communion this week. On Tuesday the 11th we have our new weekly morning Communion service at 10am. On Wednesday the 12th we have the return of our monthly Contemplative Communion service at 7pm.
FUND RAISING for the flint wall in front of the church, bordering on to Western road. Our magnificent wall is in need of urgent repairs. You will have noticed there are a number of patches where the attractive square knapped flint work has fallen away, with other areas exhibiting a degree of ‘bulge’. Additionally there is concern that the Holm oak and other vegetation is exacerbating the situation. We are obtains quotes from flint wall specialists and a tree surgeon. The likely estimate is £20,000 and possibly more. Please could anyone with expertise or ideas about fundraising, talk to Ben, Mary-Rose or Ashley.
A REFLECTION. During Morning Prayer this week we had a series of readings from The Prayer of Azariah which you can find in The Apocryphal Books in The Bible (if your Bible doesn't have the Apocryphal books trade it in for a better model). Here is a short selection. 'Bless the Lord, mountains and hills. Bless the Lord, all that grows in the ground. Bless the Lord, seas and rivers. Bless the Lord, you springs. Bless the Lord, you whales and all that swims in the waters. Bless the Lord, all birds of the air. Bless the Lord, all wild animals and cattle; sing praise to him and highly exalt him for ever' (53-58). This long, ecstatic prayer to all the levels of creation is just one example of the buried treasure which is waiting to be discovered in The Bible. And yet for so many of us we know nothing about it, we miss depth upon depth of beauty and wonder. A suggestion, find time to go on a spiritual excavation into scripture, the result is to find pearls.
